Happy New Year!
Welcome back to a busy and exciting Spring term.
Over the first couple of weeks we will be welcoming some new children into Red Base.
Our Author for the first half of the term is Jez Alborough, and our weekly topics will include transport, materials and Chinese New Year.
There will be a phonics workshop for the parents in Red base during the week beginning 22nd January – more details nearer the time.
School closes on Friday 9th February and re-opens Monday 19th February
The second half term we will be doing lots of work on tradition tales and nursery rhymes. Our weekly topics will include castles and houses, numbers and time and rivers and bridges. During the second half term we will also be having our Mother’s Day tea party and of course World book day – more details nearer the time.

Spring Term 2018
Happy New Year and welcome back to school! We hope you and your children have enjoyed the holidays. They have certainly come back with lots to tell us!
We are starting this year exploring Dinosaurs. We will be learning some dinosaur names, finding out facts about the different dinosaurs, reading dinosaur stories and writing our own. We will be having a visit from the Dinostar Museum, and the children will have the opportunity to explore some real dinosaur bones and interview an expert.
After half term, we will be learning about plants and growing, through a topic on Jack and the Beanstalk. We will find out what makes plants grow, and we will try to grow some of our own!
In Literacy, we will continue to develop the children’s reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. We have taught all the letters in the alphabet and are now moving on to teach sounds made up of two or three letters (e.g. ch/sh/th). We are encouraging the children to use these sounds in their writing, and attempt to write independently.
In Maths, we are working hard to make sure the children are confident in recognising and ordering numbers up to 20. We are further developing their skills in adding and subtracting, and will provide opportunities for the children to solve problems using these skills.
We continue to provide the children with a wide range of other experiences including creative tasks, PE, music and IT.
Your support is much appreciated and makes a huge difference. Please could we ask you to continue reading with your child regularly, practising their numbers and tricky words, and completing their weekly homework. Your support at Writing Mornings is also important and we would like to thank you for making the time to attend.
Please feel free to come into either Blue or Green Base to discuss your child’s progress or any other concerns you may have!
