Summer Term 2018
We have now entered our last term of the school year – Wow! The year is flying by!! We still have lots of new things to learn as well as consolidating what we have already learnt.
This half term we are finding out all about space. We will be developing our knowledge & understanding of the world when we explore all about space. What would we find in space?, what the different planets are called and what they are like as well as finding out all about astronauts.
After half term our topic will be ‘Magic’! This will include lots of stories about witches & wizards (Room on a Broom, Winnie the Witch and The magic porridge pot). Which ones can you remember? We will be making different spells – hope they don’t try to change one of the adults into a frog!!
We will launch the topic by dressing up as wizards (Harry Potter?) or witches – more information to follow.
In Literacy, we will continue to develop the children’s reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. The children are making amazing progress with their decoding & blending in reading & writing. We will be practising writing in different styles such as instructions, lists, stories, etc
In Maths, we are continuing to develop the children’s confidence in a range of number skills and encouraging them to work more independently and exploring reasoning (understanding why something is the right answer ie “The missing number is 12 because I know the number before 12 is 11). We will focus on numbers within 20.
We continue to provide the children with a wide range of other experiences including creative tasks, PE, music and IT.
Your children have been amazing this week coming into school on their own – they are showing us they are already getting ready to be in Year 1! Your support at Writing Mornings continues to be a valuable part of your child’s education and we would like to thank you for still making the time to attend.
Your support is much appreciated and makes a huge difference. Please could we ask you to continue reading with your child regularly, practising their numbers and tricky words, and completing their weekly homework.
Tapestry has been a valuable home school link this year – remember to regularly check what your child has been up to at school every week.
Please feel free to come into either Blue or Green Base to discuss your child’s progress or any other concerns you may have!
