Red, Green and Blue Base
Summer Term 2017
Wow – Summer term already – time flies when you’re having fun!
Welcome to the start of an exciting term in Red base.
Over the first weeks of the term we will be welcoming new children to Foundation 1.
Our author study for the first half of the Summer term will be Eric Carle. I’m sure you will have all heard of some of his books, maybe you have some at home that you could bring in to share, or why not visit the library to search for some Eric Carle stories. Some of our weekly topics include mini-beasts, flowers, senses and caterpillars and butterflies – we will even have some live caterpillars in our classroom!
During the second half term we will be preparing our children for the transition into Foundation 2.
Please feel free to come into Red base to discuss your child’s progress or any other concerns you may have.
Foundation 2 (Blue & Green Base)
Summer Term 2017
Welcome to Foundation 2
Welcome back for the final term of this school year!
This term will be a very busy term – as always. We will be preparing your child for transitioning into Year 1 and will be talking to them about being ‘independent’.
We will be consolidating what we have been learning throughout the year, encouraging them to deepen their learning and understanding and encouraging their independence.
Our topics are about Space this half term and Castles next half term. If your child has any books at home that they would like to fetch in to school on either topic we would love to see them.
We have begun asking you to send your child into school on their own in a morning but we continue to welcome you in to the classroom to support your child on their writing morning.
Book bags will continue to be sent home regularly throughout the week so your child can practise reading, letter recognition and their numbers at home. Please remember to write in your child’s reading record so we know when they’ve read at home. Your child will also continue to bring home a piece of homework in their learning journeys on Fridays – thank you for your continued support with helping your child with their home work. Please remember to fetch the completed homework back on a Monday so we can display it.
Remember you child’s PE sessions (Green Base on a Tuesday & Blue Base on a Wednesday).
Most children have now brought a PE kit into school as we are now getting changed fully for our PE lessons – again getting them ready for Year 1. If you haven’t sent a PE kit in yet, please do so as soon as possible. Remember no jewellery is to be worn and earrings are to be removed or covered over with a plaster before the session begins.
We have an exciting treat this term. On the 11th May your child will have the opportunity to take part in a dance workshop with the Northern Ballet Company. This is a special and privileged opportunity as they are not going into every school. Your will need a PE kit for this session.
Another exciting treat to look forward to this term is a school trip to East Park alongside Years 1 & 2 on the 8th June – more details are to follow.
Please remember to pay your child’s £1.00 snack money every week.
Thank you for your continued support. Please feel free to come into either Blue or Green Base to discuss your child’s progress or any other concerns you may have!
