Kinabatangan Year 4
Welcome to the Autumn term in Kinabatangan (Year 4)
I hope you all had a lovely summer holiday and are ready to get back to work!
Homework will be set each half term. The structure will remain the same as last year (where you will be given a set of tasks to complete by a given date).
Children need to continue to practise reading at home, so I appreciate your help listening to your child read and encouraging them to use Bug Club at least 3 times a week. Please make sure your child brings their school reading book to school every day to allow us to change your child’s book as necessary. In addition we are continuing to use the Sum Dog programme to aid in the progress of our children’s mental arithmetic skills; so your continued support with the use of this app would be appreciated.
Weekly spellings list will be sent home with the children for them to practise in preparation for our test on a Friday. We will be practising spellings every day.
Literacy – We will be linking our literacy targets extremely closely to our topic wherever possible. We will be starting the autumn term by looking at character and setting descriptions..
Maths – We will be starting the term by looking at place value: rounding to the nearest 10/100, counting in 1000s etc.
Computing – We will be musicians.
R.E. – The children will be studying Christianity.
History and Geography Topic – We will be looking at The Blitz. We have lots of exciting activities planned including (hopefully) a parent morning. Watch this space!
P.E. – PE sessions will continue to be taught both inside and outside. Please ensure your child has an appropriate PE kit in school. The children will be taking part in netball.
Art – We will be using colour washes for dramatic effect as well as molding and shaping clay to create WW2 medals. .
Music – We will be taking part in the wider opportunities music service. We will be learning to play the glockenspiels. .
We look forward to seeing you in school.
